The Golden Rose Award 2025

St. John Cantius Parish has had a long tradition of presenting the Golden Rose to an individual, family or institution which has displayed an outstanding example of living, promoting or implementing Catholic teaching. The Golden Rose is a precious and sacred ornament made of pure gold, which on Laetare Sunday popes have often blessed and conferred upon persons distinguished for their faith and loyalty to the Holy See, as a mark of esteem and paternal affection. The golden flower given on this day shows forth Christ and His Kingly Majesty. The thorns and red color of real roses tell of His Passion, to which the Prophet Isaiah alludes: “Why then is thy apparel red, and thy garments like theirs that tread in the winepress?” (Isaiah 63:2) Thus, this Sunday on which the rose is blessed is often called Rose Sunday.

The Golden Rose was presented on Laetare Sunday, March 30th, 2025 at the 9 a.m. Mass.

Congratulations to the Fulton Sheen Livestream Guild, the 2025 Golden Rose Recipients!

Each year a Golden Rose is presented to an individual, family or institution which has displayed an outstanding example of living, promoting or implementing the Catholic faith and teaching. Perhaps never was this more challenging than at the time of Covid-19. At a time when the faithful were not permitted to attend public liturgy, it became our primary objective to bring the liturgy to your homes and provide the Sacraments to every extent possible.

Thus it was that the Livestream at St. John Cantius was born. At the directive of Fr. Joshua Caswell, Brothers Andrew Panzer and Kevin Menard set out to make every liturgy conducted at St. John Cantius available to be watched by anyone, anywhere.

It soon became apparent that the enemy of souls did not even want this consolation for the faithful. Whether it was equipment randomly failing, or websites crashing, it was clear that the livestream was more than a simple technological offering. It was a share in the Charism and Apostolates of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius to “Restore the Sacred” and to bring this restoration to the world. A spiritual work of this nature, begged for a patron and intercessor and so it was that the live streaming efforts fell under the umbrella of the Ven. Fulton Sheen Livestream Guild.

Still under the guidance of the Canons Regular, the guild is now almost entirely organized and operated by Lay Volunteers. These young women and men have dedicated many hours to prayerfully immersing themselves in the Sacred Liturgies and to making them accessible to viewers all around the world, who may not otherwise have an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Sacred Liturgy.

For the hard work and dedication in promoting the Catholic Faith as expressed through the Sacred Liturgy – on behalf of St. John Cantius parish, we are pleased to award the Golden Rose to the Fulton Sheen Livestream Guild.
