From the Organ Loft

We are approaching a thrilling choral year at St. John Cantius Church. Our renowned Sacred Music program this Fall will feature works of great composers—ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

Our own Corrado Cavalli will perform on Sunday, October 16 at 3:00 pm.

Join us on Sunday, October 16, at 3:00 p.m. for a thrilling concert featuring our magnificent Casavant Organ and our organist Maestro Corrado Cavalli. The program will span from the famous Prelude and Fugue in b minor BWV 544 by Johann Sebastian Bach to the organ arrangement of three movements from Strawinsky's Firebird. There will be an opportunity to make a freewill offering to support our engaging music program.

Many thanks to Maestro Spanu (second from left) for his wonderful concert at St Cantius on Friday, Sept 30. A special thanks goes to Dott. Di Vito ( far left), Director of the Italian Institute of Chicago, and to Dott. Botzios, Consul General of Italy (far right), for their support and presence. Our own Maestro Corrado Cavalli is pictured second from the right.

On September 30th, Maestro Ugo Spanu, organ professor at Italy’s Conservatory of Sassari and acclaimed international concert artist, played a very engaging organ recital. Thanks to the Italian Institute of Culture for helping us to host Mastro Spanu.

Maestro Spanu’s Pièce de résistance played the symphonic poem Evocation, a virtuoso work by the late Parisian organist Marcel Dupré, who once ranked our Casavant Organ op. 1130 among the best organs in the country.

The Canons invite you to join us at both of these exciting events.
